National Honors Eligibility & Criteria

Each National Honors category has a distinct set of eligibility and criteria. Please review all criteria and submission requirements before beginning your nomination. If you have any questions on any of the details listed below, please email membership@asid.org.

The ASID Medalist award recognizes members and partners who have demonstrated outstanding service to ASID, have provided significant contributions to the interior design profession, and have made significant contributions that have enriched the human experience. This award is bestowed as Medalist, Honorary Medalist, and Educator Medalist.

Criteria

The Medalist award is granted to candidates who fulfill two of the following three criteria. Each of the two criteria will count equally in the scoring:

1. Outstanding service to the chapter and to the profession of interior design in one or more the following:

  • Serving as a chapter officer
  • Serving on a chapter board
  • High level of participation in committee work
  • Genuine commitment to advancing the goals and/or strategic plan of the chapter or Society
  • Significant contribution to chapter service, projects or programs

2. Significant local, regional, or national contributions to the interior design profession in one of more the following:

  • Advancement of favorable legislation
  • Contribution to the fields of education or research that serve to further design excellence
  • Service in leadership roles in related organizations such as NCIDQ, CIDA, etc.
  • Participation in government task forces, review committees, and/or licensing boards
  • Service on national councils, committees, task forces, and/or boards of directors

3. Significant and continued contributions that have enriched the human experience in one or more of the following design-related fields:

  • Impact of design
  • Community involvement and leadership
  • Research of lasting significance
  • Design innovation

Submission Guidelines

The following must be submitted for each nominee:

  1. The nominee’s resume or curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages)
  2. A description of how the candidate meets the criteria (max. 500 words)
  3. A detailed summary demonstrating the nominee’s ASID involvement for a minimum of five years. This document should include the candidate's honors, awards, citations, offices, and chair positions held, and the year in which they were received/held (max. 3 pages)
  4. Three letters of recommendation from ASID members endorsing the nominee’s eligibility and outstanding efforts
  5. High resolution headshot (300 dpi)
  6. Short Bio (max. 200 words) 

The ASID Chapter Community Service award honors an ASID professional chapter that has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to their community during the previous year. 

Chapter activities eligible for this award include, but are not limited to, pro bono design services provided to support the following: 

  • Public or nonprofit building projects that assist persons in need 
  • Community centers that assist underserved populations 
  • Public or nonprofit healthcare, rehabilitation, and hospice facilities 
  • Public or nonprofit educational facilities 

Eligibility

Each ASID chapter may submit one nomination for an activity or project that was completed within the prior ASID fiscal year (October 1, 2020 – September 30, 2021). The nomination must be for the chapter’s community service efforts, not for service rendered by an individual member of the chapter. Fundraising activities, activities to support response to natural disasters, and other community service activities that do not involve providing interior design services are not eligible for this award. 

Submission Guidelines

All Chapter Community Service Award nominations require the following:

  • A brief description of the project and the chapter’s role in the project (max. 300 words)
  • Documentation of the positive impact of the project on the occupants and/or the community, such as testimonials, letters of commendation, awards or certificates and media coverage. (max. 10 MB)
  • Photographs of the project along with photo credit.

The Industry Partner (IP) Merit award honors those who have shown outstanding and significant service to their chapters of the Society, have made contributions that have enhanced the chapter or Society, and who have enriched the human experience through support of the design profession. The IP Merit award is the highest Industry Partner award bestowed by the Society.

Criteria

All nominees for the Industry Partner Merit Award must fulfill two of the three following criteria. Each of the two criteria will count equally in the scoring:

1. Outstanding service to the Chapter and to the profession of interior design in one or more the following:

  • Service on a chapter board or committee
  • Genuine commitment to advancing the chapter’s strategic plan goals
  • Significant contribution to chapter projects or programs such as fundraisers, community service, and enrichment (continuing education, trade shows, public awareness, etc.)

2. Significant local, regional, or national contributions to the interior design profession in one of more the following:

  • Advancement of favorable legislation;
  • Contributions in the fields of education and/or research
  • Service in leadership roles in related organizations such as NCIDQ, CIDA, etc.
  • Participation in government task forces, review committees, and/or licensing boards
  • Service on national councils, committees, task forces, and/or boards of directors

3. Significant and continued contributions that have enriched the human experience in one or more of the following design-related fields:

  • Impact of design
  • Community involvement and leadership (including pro-bono work)
  • Research of lasting significance
  • Design innovation

Eligibility

To be eligible, Industry Partner Merit award nominees must be current ASID Industry Partner members in good standing who have demonstrated significant chapter involvement for five or more years. Current national board members and fellows are not eligible. 

Submission Guidelines

The following must be submitted for each nominee:

  1. A description of how the candidate meets the eligibility criteria (max. 500 words)
  2. A detailed summary demonstrating the nominee’s ASID involvement for a minimum of five years. This document should include the candidate's honors, awards, citations, offices, and chair positions held, and the year in which they were received/held. (max. 3 pages)
  3. Three letters of recommendation from ASID members endorsing the nominee’s eligibility and outstanding efforts
  4. High resolution headshot (300 dpi)
  5. Nominee’s bio (max. 250 words)

The Lifetime award recognizes and rewards individual members for their special contributions to ASID and the interior design industry. This award is limited to past ASID Society-level Chairs and other professional members who meet the eligibility criteria.

Eligibility may be obtained in two ways:

1. A recommendation by the ASID National Board of Directors for past National Board Chairs. The Lifetime Award may be conferred upon a past Board Chair who:

  • is in good standing (dues fully paid through the current year);
  • has made continual and important contributions to the chapter or Society;
  • has been an ASID professional member for a minimum of 25 years.
  • has reached the age of 60.

2. A nomination of a professional member that is initiated by their ASID Chapter Board of Directors. The Lifetime Award may be conferred upon a professional member who:

  • is in good standing (dues fully paid through the current year);
  • has made continual and important contributions to the chapter or Society;
  • has been a professional member for a minimum of 25 years;
  • has reached the age of 68.

Submission Guidelines

All Lifetime Award nominations require the following: 

  • A chronological listing of at least 25 years of active professional membership in ASID involvement in ASID
  • Two Letters of recommendation 
  • A copy of the nominee's driver's license, or passport, to verify age
  • High-resolution headshot (300 dpi)
  • Nominee’s bio (max. 250 words)

Jury

The National Honors Jury will review all nominations based on the eligibility requirements. Outstanding and exemplary service will be the benchmark and the committee will make every effort to maintain high standards and to ensure consistency in judging. After review, selected award recipients will be submitted to the ASID National Board of Directors for approval. The ASID National Board of Directors is the only body that may bestow the Lifetime Award. The number of Lifetime Awards bestowed in any given year shall not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total number of professional members of the Society at the beginning of the effective calendar year.

Once the ASID Board of Directors has granted a Lifetime Award, the candidates will be notified directly. In the event that a Lifetime Award is not granted, the president of the nominee’s chapter will be notified.
